Why Josephine Rapha - Eli Pediatric Lymphoma/Leukemia Trust?
Due to the significant threat and increasing incidence of this disease among children, especially those from low-income backgrounds, which notably includes Tanzania, it has become apparent that there is a need for a vessel that will not only be used to provide training and educate the community about lymphoma but will also serve as a crucial platform connecting people worldwide to undertake three major tasks:
- Seek ways to help a child recover from this type of cancer.
-
Educate and train female doctors in the field of hematology, and ensure they return to the country to increase the number of hematologists, thus further assisting Tanzanian children with lymphoma. -
Approximately 30,000 cases of non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) occur in the equatorial belt of Africa each year. Apart from the fact that Burkitt lymphoma (BL) is very common among children and adolescents in sub-Saharan Africa, very little is known about lymphomas in Africa. JRET shall enhance research and raise awareness to ensure more lives are saved. -
Lastly, but not least, advocate for the safety & protection of male children in all aspects.
